Introducing Patien: AI Clinical Notes for Every Specialty

We built Patien because documentation burnout is real. Here's how we approached building an AI scribe that adapts to every clinical specialty.

If you've spoken to a clinician recently, there's a good chance you've heard some version of this: "I spend more time on notes than I do with patients." It's not a complaint — it's a measurable fact. Studies consistently show that physicians spend between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per day on documentation. That's time taken from patients, from family, and from the reason most clinicians entered medicine in the first place.

We built Patien because we believe this is a solvable problem. Not with better templates, not with dictation software, and not by offloading the work to scribes — but with AI that genuinely understands clinical conversations.

The problem with existing tools

Most clinical documentation tools were built for compliance and billing, not for clinicians. They optimize for completeness and defensibility. The result is notes that are long, formulaic, and exhausting to produce.

Even tools marketed as "AI scribes" often fall short. They transcribe what was said but don't understand clinical context. They produce raw transcripts rather than structured notes. And critically, they're built for one specialty — usually primary care — and barely work for anyone else.

A dental SOAP note looks nothing like a psychiatric MSE. An aesthetic consultation requires different fields than a veterinary visit. The moment you try to use a generic scribe for your specialty, you're back to rewriting.

What Patien does differently

Patien listens to your patient visit in real time, understands the clinical conversation, and generates a structured note — in the format your specialty uses.

We trained on clinical documentation across six specialties: General Practice, Aesthetic Medicine, Dental, Psychiatry, Therapy & Psychology, and Veterinary. Each specialty has its own note structure, terminology, and documentation conventions. Patien understands them all.

Here's what that looks like in practice:

  • A GP gets a SOAP note with the HPI, ROS, exam findings, assessment, and plan clearly separated.
  • A psychiatrist gets a Mental Status Exam with structured observations, medication review, and risk assessment.
  • A dentist gets charting-friendly output with quadrant notation and treatment plan fields.
  • A therapist gets session notes that follow the modality they practice — CBT, psychodynamic, or integrative.

On privacy and trust

We knew from the start that handling medical audio would require us to take privacy more seriously than most software companies. Every piece of audio processed by Patien is encrypted in transit and at rest. Audio files are permanently deleted within 24 hours of note generation. We sign Business Associate Agreements with every customer. And we never use patient data to train our models.

These aren't checkboxes — they're the foundation the product is built on.

What's next

Patien is in early access. We're working with a small group of clinicians to get the note quality right before we open more broadly. If you'd like to be part of that group, you can sign up for the free trial — no credit card required.

We have a lot more to build: a mobile app, deeper EHR integrations, more languages, and features that go beyond note-taking entirely. But we're starting with the thing that matters most: giving clinicians their time back.
